Totally Tapped of Ideas

Hey, I have nothing interesting to say anymore. I just can't think of anything. If you come up with an interesting point or debate topic, and post it as a comment here, I'll give you 5 merit points.

Think of it--5 points! Imagine what you could do with those points!

Also, 1 merit point for suggesting a good work of fiction that is less than 300 pages.

I'm perfectly willing to discuss America's (possible) decline, but not sure I feel qualified to start the discussion. Would either of you guys like to guest-post an opening argument on the topic??? I think I'd feel better about trying to find a spot to attack an argument (half joking), but not as sure about the issue as a whole myself. If we do liberalism, I think maybe 100 years might be too long--hard to know what years 75-100 would be like. Reminds me of "Bottle Rocket" though--Dignan with his 75 year plan that fits onto one page!

i actually did see that segment on the news hour, but in fact i had already been thinking about the topic.

first: i had been feeling guilty about not giving more to oxfam after the tsunami.

second: in my values & ethics in public policy course we just discussed an article by peter singer that appeared in the new york times. he suggests we give away whatever income we have above what is needed for "basic necessities." in the middle of the article he asks the readers to pause and call one of the charities whose 1-800 number he provides. singer claims that he himself gives 1/5 of his income away.

no one in my class picked up the phone while reading the article.

hard to believe that on a professor's salary, 80% is needed to meet "basic necessities" but obviously that is more than i give.

what should we give if we have credit card debt?
